Donald Trump stated he was notified by Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team that he is a target of investigation for his actions to overturn the 2020 U.S. election. If Trump is correct, this will be the second time he will be indicted by a federal court and by Jack Smith’s investigations. The last time he was was in June 2023, where he was indicted on 37 felony charges of mishandling top secret documents.
In the past when Trump was indicted by the U.S. government he rose in polling over his Republican opponents in the presidential primary nomination race temporarily when the news came out, but his poll numbers among Americans at large and specifically GOP constituents dropped in the weeks following.
