In a closely watched and contested race, Republican Lauren Boebert has taken the lead in Colorado’s 3rd district race. Colorado’s Third Congressional District comprises 47+% of the entire state of Colorado. 55+% of the District is federal land.
Gilbert Ortiz, the Pueblo County Clerk, verified to The Denver Post that his office still needs to tally around 1,800 in-person ballots, 5,200 mail-in ballots, and another 500 ballots whose signatures are being checked. It’s also unclear if any more ballots from the rest of the state need to be counted.
Seth Masket, a political scientist at the University of Denver, admitted, “I’m just speculating at this point.
The losing candidate could ask for a recount even if one of them gains the lead and crosses the automatic recount threshold, but they would have to pay for the effort.
As of 1200 CST, Boebert is ahead by around ~400 votes.
