Kenya and Uganda: Suam Border Trade Route

Broadening of Infrastructure Agreements between Kenya and Uganda:

Kenya and Uganda have been working cooperatively in an effort to transform the Suam border crossing into a hub that covers customs, security, sanitary inspections, and immigration all in one building. This has been done with the intention of improving the “transport and clearance of goods”, as stated by Raymond Omollo, Kenya’s principal secretary for Interior and National Coordination. The project is expected to be complete sometime next month.

The project is funded by the African Finance Development Bank, which is sponsored by both the governments of Kenya and Uganda. The upgrading of the border post and road have been carried out by private companies, particularly by the China State Engineering Construction Corporation.
