Taiwan Elections: DPP Victory

Lai Ching-te of the Democratic Progressive Party has won the election and becomes the next president. However, the DPP has lost the majority in the legislature, with no party having enough support to rule alone.

  • DPP – 40.1%
  • KMT – 33.35%
  • TPP – 26.28%

Lai, also known as William Lai, takes over for his party in the third consecutive presidential win for the DPP. His position is one of deepening ties with the West and focusing on a more independent Taiwan from China.
