Taiwan Caucus Co-chairs Meet with Taiwanese President, Vice President

Democratic Representative Ami Bera and Republican Representative Mario Díaz Balart, co-chairs of the U.S. Congress’s Taiwan Caucus, met with President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President/President Elect William Lai on January 25th.

The leaders discussed China’s interference in the recent elections and issues related to trade barriers such as double taxation.

The meeting is part of the delegation’s three-day visit to demonstrate that Taiwan continues to have U.S. support after the recent elections and to discuss ways to enhance defense and economic ties.

The visit is the first time a U.S. delegation traveled to Taiwan after the January 13th elections as well as the first time both co-chairs traveled to the island in recent years.
