Three Syrian Men Charged over Jihadist Group Membership

German authorities have arrested and sentenced a trio of men from Syria with membership and involvement in a terrorist organization.

One of the men arrested was a former commander within the organization, details on the other men are unknown, as are the length of sentences for all of them.

The organization, known as Liwa Al Tawhid, or Al-Tahwid Brigade, was active from 2012-2014 in the Syrian Civil War in opposition of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. At its peak, it was one of the largest insurgency groups operating in Aleppo as a part of the Free Syrian Army or FSA.

Although considered officially inactive, some smaller organizations used the same or a similar name and have continued operations against adversaries.
