Japan, China, and South Korea To Meet Soon

During a November 2023 meeting in Busan, the foreign ministers of Japan, China, and South Korea agreed to meet “at an early and appropriate date” to facilitate talks on their shared region.

Although there has been no official date yet set, diplomatic sources now suggest this meeting will likely take place in either April or May.

This meeting will be the first three-way summit between these nations since 2019. It also comes at a tumultuous time for both Japan and South Korea, as Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party faces record-low approval ratings amid multiple scandals, and South Korea is gearing up for a tense election also fraught with scandal.
