North Korea Tests Cruise Missiles off West Coast

North Korea launched cruise missiles containing “super large” warheads around 11 am local time on February 2nd after a series of similar tests last week.

South Korea witnessed the test as it happened, and stated the reasoning for such tests was to improve the capabilities of such weapons, including the possibility of adding nuclear warheads. The tests also included submarine-launched cruise missiles (SLCM).

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to strengthen the military through new constructions and further testing. KCNA (Korean Central News Agency) also quoted Kim as saying ” Strengthening naval force is the most important issue in pushing ahead with war preparations.”

These demonstrations are also likely in response to joint exercises between the United States and South Korea.
