Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra Granted Parole

Thai Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong said that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will be among the 930 prisoners to be granted parole, according to local media sources.

The minister also said he will be released from prison on Saturday, February 17th, along with other prisoners considered elderly or ill to serve their sentences.

Thaksin is currently serving a one-year prison sentence in a police hospital due to poor health (tightness of chest and high blood pressure) that began on the first day of his imprisonment. However, Thai authorities could still try him on charges related to insulting the Thai monarchy in 2015.
