The Attorney of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Hotman Paris Hutapea, stated that corruption rumors involving the cancellation of the planned acquisition of 12 Mirage 2000-5 aircraft from Qatar are a hoax.
Hutapea alleges that the makers of the false reports are Indonesians who posted these writings on various foreign language websites.
He later said that because it was reported in a foreign language, it does not mean that it has nothing to do with Indonesia.
Hutapea goes on to say that a video exists of former European Union MP and Greek politician Eva Kaili saying she is allegedly involved with the deal. Specifically, Kaili said she was facilitating the acquisition process of buying the aircraft from Qatar. However, the video was allegedly recorded in January 2023, but Kaili has been in prison awaiting her trial on corruption charges since 2022.
