India’s Department of Telecommunications seeks to finance a minimum of six chip designs under the Telecom Technology Development Fund later this year.
This development, however, is separate from projects under the Indian Semiconductor Mission.
Such programs include next-generation broadband Consumer Premise Equipment, the ability to develop signal processors for 5G infrastructure, and parts for satellite communications.
Chip development is essential for defense development in the modern world for many reasons and applications. India has been making many recent efforts to bolster defense capabilities, especially in the maritime domain.
