Facebook Page Belonging to Philippine Coast Guard Hacked

The Facebook page belonging to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been hacked, as officials lost access to the page on Monday evening around 6:00 p.m. local time to an unknown cyber group.

This attack marks the third time this year that media related to the PCG has fallen victim to cyberattacks. The PCG’s website and X, formally known as Twitter, account also suffered two cyberattacks in the past month. The Coast Guard Public Affairs Service (CGPAS) noted two videos described as “malicious” were posted.

The CGPAS attempted to remove the content and ran into problems as the platform sent a forced switch account notification. Officials also claimed the group responsible did not leave behind any tracks on the email or phone number used by government personnel.

The Philippine Government is still attempting to regain access, with the last activity by the CGPAS’s last activity on the page occurring at 10:00 a.m. local time.
