Democrat Jared Moskowitz Considers Run to Become Florida’s Governor

Democratic Representative Jared Moscowitz is considering running for governor of Florida in the future 2026 election, according to an interview.

“I’m not ruling it out,” Moskowitz said at the Capitol on March 5th. “I’m looking at it, but it’s super early,” he later added when discussing the possibility of him running.

Current Governor Ron DeSantis will be unable to run in the next election due to reaching term limits, making this next race highly anticipated.

Republicans, including Representatives Matt Gaetz and Bryon Donalds, and Florida Republican Attorney General Ashley Moody, have all been possible choices. However, Gaetz said he has no interest in the position.

Casey DeSantis, the wife of Ron DeSantis, is also up for consideration after polling numbers show moderate support for her.

Democratic Senator Shevrin Jones and Florida House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell have both said they are “strongly considering” running in the upcoming election.

Florida has not had a democratic governor since 1998, when Buddy McKay entered office after the passing of Governor Lawton Chiles, who was in office for less than a month.
