Gray Whale Spotted in Atlantic Ocean for the First Time in 200 Years

An aerial unit working with the New England Aquarium has spotted a rare sight: a Gray Whale in the Atlantic Ocean.

The whale was spotted thirty miles off the coast south of Nantucket, Massachusetts, on March 1st.

Gray whales are not a rare sight within the Pacific; however, they were thought to be long gone in the Atlantic, vanishing in the 18th century.

Scientists have reportedly described the sighting as “an incredibly rare event” and have theorized that this event is possibly linked to climate change with regards to the Northern Passage, which connects the Pacific and Atlantic.
