After taking off from Vancouver International Airport, a Boeing 777-300ER was struck by lightning on the evening of Monday, March 4th. The airplane was flying into Vancouver from London Heathrow.
The event was caught on camera by a 19-year-old student pilot, Ethan West. He went on to say, “I watched it, it kept climbing, I guess they came to the conclusion that it was safe and airworthy” after the plane continued on its flight path when tracked on a flight tracker.
Lightning commonly strike planes during flights; however, the lightening strikes rarely cause damage.
