Firefight Breaks Out in Rakhine State Capital Between Resistance Groups and Junta

Fighting has allegedly continued on the outskirts of the capital city, Sittwe, Rakhine State, between the junta forces and the Arakan Army (AA) today, March 14th.

The town of Pauktaw has been the scene of immense destruction, with the infrastructure of the town leveled and streets littered with rubble from ruined businesses and houses. The Junta forces conduct daily shelling, and airstrikes also occur to prevent the AA from advancing into Sittwe or solidifying their gains.

The AA captured the town in February 2024, but it has seen fighting over the span of the civil war.
