Philippine President Appoints New Commander of National Police

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Lt. General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta as the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Commanding General (CG), effective March 31st. The President’s Office announced Peralta’s appointment in a statement it released.

The memorandum said that Peralta will hold the post until a replacement is appointed or until otherwise directed by Marcos’ office.” The statement also said that his appointment “took effect” on March 31st. Peralta will replace current PNP head General Benjamin Acorda Jr., who served in the role from April 2023 to March 2024.

The PNP also released a statement that said the organization will continue to uphold “the principles” of Acorda and other previous leaders such as the ‘Kasimbayanan’ concept” and other initiatives.

The statement also called for all PNP members to “rally behind” Peralta and work together “towards our shared goals of ensuring the safety and security of our fellow Filipinos.”

Peralta was previously the PNP’s Deputy Chief for Administration, which is the fourth highest position in the PNP.
