Taiwan and Japan Issue Tsunami Warnings after Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey detected a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred approximately 11 miles (18 km) northeast of Hualien City, located along Taiwan’s eastern coast.

The island’s Central Weather Administration CWA) issued a tsunami warning for the northern coast shortly, advising citizens to move to higher ground. However, not all residents reportedly received the alert from the CWA.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency also issued a tsunami warning for both Miyako and Okinawa islands, saying that waves up to about 10 feet (3 m) is expected imminently.
