Philippine Army Issues Statement Over Recent Engagements with Communists

The Philippine Army put out a statement detailing recent engagements with elements of the New People’s Army (NPA) around Barangay Nagcanasan, Pilar, Abra, Barangay Babalasiona, Santa Monica, and Ilocos Sur from April 2nd–3rd.

Members of the Philippine Army’s 50th Infantry Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, began conducting security operations after receiving a tip from residents suggesting armed men were spotted when they received fire.

Fighters from the NPA North Abra Guerilla Front (KLG North Abra) and the Ilocos Sur Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC).

The Philippine Army is reportedly working with local authorities to provide food and water for the 113 families who fled their homes due to the NPA’s presence.
