Indonesia Allows SpaceX to Operate Within the Country

Indonesia’s Information and Communications Ministry claimed SpaceX’s Elon Musk has obtained the required licensing to operate Starlink satellite internet within Indonesia.

Starlink’s first test within Indonesia will be in Nusantara, Indonesia’s capital city.

Wayan Toni Supriyanto, the Ministry’s post and information director general, said, “We are expecting the trial to use one ground station” on Wednesday, April 3rd.

Starlink obtained the needed permit after meeting the hub development and device standards outlined by the Post and Informatics Resources and Facilities part of the ministry.

Wayan added that Starlink is applying for an internet service provider (ISP) and very small aperture terminal (VSAT) licenses that are required for direct-to-consumer services.

“It is possible the company has complied with VSAT (requirements),” Wayan added. He emphasized that Starlink needs to establish local cooperation on network access protection.
