Senior Chinese Official will Visit North Korea to Attend Ceremony

Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) Politburo Standing Committee member and National People’s Congress Standing Committee Chairman, Zhao Leji, will visit North Korea from April 11th to 13th. Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the announcement during the Ministry’s daily briefing on April 9th.

Zhao will lead a CCP and government delegation on an “official goodwill visit” to the country and will attend the opening ceremony of the China-North Korea Friendship Year’ to mark the 75 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties.

However, Mao said that details of the upcoming visit are still being discussed by both sides. Mao said that North Korea’s invitation “reflects the deep friendship between the two countries and the great importance China attaches to its relations” with North Korea.

She then said that China “believes that with the joint efforts of both sides, the visit will be a full success and further deepen bilateral ties.”
