Switzerland to Host Ukraine Peace Conference Without Russian Participation

Switzerland is set to host a peace conference on Ukraine on June 15-16 at the Bürgenstock Hotel near Lake Lucerne, with Russia not participating.

Viola Amherd, President of the Federal Council, the Swiss executive organ, describes the event as a step toward a sustainable peace process, emphasizing the importance of Russian involvement in future discussions despite their initial absence.

The conference, which will not result in a signed peace plan, expects attendance from around 120 countries, including the United States, with President Joe Biden likely to attend.

In January, Amherd assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of Switzerland’s support in organizing the conference. Russian officials have criticized the event, labeling it a U.S. Democratic effort tied to the American presidential campaign.
