Maldivian President Confirms Second Batch of Indian Personnel Left Country

President Mohamed Muizzu announced on April 12th that the second batch of Indian military personnel would leave the Maldives on April 11th. The president made the announcement during a campaign rally for the April 21st parliamentary elections in Hithadhoo, Addu, on April 11th.

Muizzu also confirmed that the final batch of Indian personnel will also leave the country by the agreed upon date of May 10th.

He said that “there is only one platform left. As the two countries have already signed, they [the remaining Indian military personnel] will also be recalled ahead of May 10.” The president also reaffirmed that any pledge he makes, he will work to “fulfill to the greatest extent.”

The president then said that there remains more to be done, and he hopes to achieve it through the election of “parliament MPs who are of the belief that they want Maldivians to experience the sense of their own independence.”
