Rebels Allegedly Attack Defense Academy in Mandalay Region, Myanmar

On April 14th, the local People’s Defense Force (PDF) allegedly launched a barrage of 18 107mm improvised rockets at the Defense Services Academy located in the town of Pyin Oo Lwin in the Mandalay region. Reports indicate that the PDF conducted the attack at approximately 9:15 p.m. local time.

Residents in the area said they heard explosions near around the academy, but detailed information about the attack is currently not known. However, residents also said that the government allegedly cut off electricity in the area, and the military deployed armored vehicles to conduct emergency patrols in the area.

Other sources allege that the country’s leader, Min Aung Hlaing, was at the DSA during the attack, while others say he was at a villa near Kandawgyi Gardens. However, others said he left the town before the attack.

The attack is the second rocket to occur at the DSA with local forces attacking the academy with five 107mm rockets on April 8th. Some reports indicate that at least three rockets landed near the Mya Nanda Hotel, located almost two miles (3.21 km) from the academy.

However, the PDF or the National Unitey Government did not released any statements confirming the April 8th attack.
