On the evening of April 15th, the Thayetkone village outpost within Nawnghkhio township, in Northern Shan State, was allegedly captured by the Mandalay-People’s Defense Force (PDF).
The outpost captured is 35 miles (56 km) from Pyin Ool Win, in the Mandalay Region, around 41 miles (67 km) from Mandalay. Junta leadership was positioned near Pyin Ool Win, whom the PDF tried to take out.
The Mandalay-PDF is known to operate with the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
This attack is reportedly the first in Northern Shan State since the Chinese hosted a peace deal between the Three Brotherhood Alliance and the junta. The attacking rebel forces were said to not be members of the Three Brotherhood Alliance.
