Philippine Survey Vessels and Coast Guard Escort Head Towards Thitu Island

The Philippine hydrologic survey vessel, the BRP H Ventura, and its new Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) escort, the BRP Cabra, entered the South China Sea and are heading towards Thitu Island (Pagasa Island) on April 20th.

Approximately 27 Chinese Maritime Militia vessels and one China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel are located around the island, likely in preparation to intercept the Philippine vessels. One CCG vessel is currently shadowing the vessels as they head towards the island.

However, the PCG did not provide any details regarding where or for how long the H Ventura will conduct the survey.
