Balikatan Exercise Begins with Opening Ceremony

The Philippines and the United States held the opening ceremony for the 2024 iteration of the Balikatan exercise at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, on April 22, 2024.

During the ceremony, one Philippine Army officer and one United States Marine Corps officer unfurled the flag for the 2024 exercise.

Both the Philippine and American militaries will conduct several exercises, such as maritime security, air and missile defense, missile strikes, and cyber defense, on Luzon and other islands throughout the Philippines. The exercise will involve approximately 11,000 U.S. and 5,000 Philippine military personnel and will end on May 10th.

The Philippine, the U.S., and the French Navies will conduct a Multilateral Maritime Exercise in the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
