Indonesian Court Rejects Petition to Dismiss Prabowo’s Election to President

The Indonesian Constitutional Court dismissed one of the two cases that sought to overturn defense minister Prabowo Subianto’s victory in the country’s presidential election.

The court voted five to three to reject Anies Baswedan’s petition that claimed Prabowo’s campaign “depended on the large-scale fraud and partisanship” of President Joko Widodo, whose son Gibran Rakabuming Raka was Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate.

However, the judges said that Anies failed to prove their claims of fraud or nepotism in Prabowo-Gibran’s campaign. The petition aimed to either redo the vote with Prabowo and a vice presidential candidate or without both individuals.
