President Zelensky Appoints Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief as Ambassador to the United Kingdom

President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially appointed former Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhny as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Zaluzhny was replaced as Commander-in-Chief earlier in 2024, as part of a broader restructuring of Ukraine’s defense leadership but was officially retired from military service on May 8 due to health reasons.

In late April, the Office of the President announced that London had approved Zaluzhny’s candidacy and that he would commence his diplomatic role within weeks.
