French President Lands in New Caledonia to Meet With Political Parties

French President Emmanuel Macron landed at La Tontouta International Airport, located in the capital of New Caledonia. The aircraft carrying Macron landed on May 23rd at 8:30 a.m. New Caledonia time.

The president’s visit to the territory is in response to the ongoing unrest stemming from the French parliament passing a constitutional amendment to expand the number of voters on the island.

While there are few details regarding the president’s trip, the president is scheduled to visit the High Commission of New Caledonia to meet with pro-independence and pro-France parties. He will also start discussions with both parties during the first meetings.

The president will also meet with local business leaders during the day. Marcon will also likely stay on the island until Friday.
