South Korea, Japan, China Release Statement Calling for Denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula

On May 27th, Japanese, South Korean, and Chinese leaders released a statement in which they restated their commitment to promoting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida attended the summit.

The leaders made the statements during the 9th Trilateral Summit between the countries in Seoul, South Korea.

The statements came out shortly after North Korea said they would conduct a satellite launch between May 27th and June 4th.

While Japan and South Korea made similar statements emphasizing the denuclearization of the peninsula, China “urged the relevant parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation.”
