Royal Thailand Police Deploy 20,000 Officers to Monitor Senate Elections

The Royal Thailand Police will deploy approximately 20,000 police officers to locations throughout Thailand for district-level voting for the Senate elections scheduled for June 9th. Assistant National Chief Lt. General Kornchai Klayklueng said the officers will ensure the transport of the ballots to and from the voting sites and ensure that “the vote as a whole runs smoothly.”

The officers will work with Election Commission (EC) officials to make sure that election regulations are “strictly followed.”

The Commission will go ahead with the voting even though the Constitutional Court is still deciding whether the election regulations are constitutional.

Some former commissioners have doubts regarding the election due to the potential for the court to rule the vote results invalid.
