Machete Attack In Spain Prompts Terrorism Investigation

On Wednesday night, Spanish police were investigating the death of a man who was attacked with a machete in a church in Algeciras. The man, who was a priest at the church of La Palma, was killed following an earlier attack in a different church in the city where a priest was also injured.

The police have arrested a man in connection with the attacks and have cordoned off the center of Algeciras with a heavy police presence. Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker entered both churches carrying a large machete and that he was challenged by the priest in San Isidro and stabbed him. In the church of La Palma, the attacker damaged statues, crosses, and candles before being urged to leave by the sacristan, who was then chased and killed by the attacker.
