An India-based company, Smart Engineering & Design Solutions, is responsible for the design that will be built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. (HSL).

The five vessels will be capable of refueling and resupplying various naval vessels while conducting operations at sea and will also operate with India’s carrier Strike Groups.

The five vessels will be the first 44,000-ton vessels built in India, and they are expected to be built over an eight-year period.
