Karenni and PDF Fighters Intercept Army Convoy in Kayah State

On March 24th, fighters from Karenni armed groups and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) successfully intercepted a convoy of military reinforcement between the townships of Hpasawng and Bawlakhe, Kayah state, located in eastern Myanmar.

The attack occurred during the morning hours near the village of Papuh hear Hpasawng township. Reports indicate that at least 16 soldiers were killed and 15 others were wounded, including the battalion’s commander, during the ambush. The fighters also reportedly arrested one soldier alive after the ambush.

A statement released by the National Unity Government said the ambush “inflicted heavy casualties on the junta regime.” The statement also the fighters seized the weapons and equipment after the ambush.
