South Korea Announces Population Ministry to Improve Demographic Issues

South Korea plans to launch a new Ministry of Population due to low birth rates and aging population on Monday, July 1st.

Once the ministry is established, it will strategize on how to resolve the demographic issues, including its low birth rates, a rapidly aging population, the workforce, and immigration in South Korea.

The ministry will also handle the creation of population policies and tasks related to the population assigned to the health and financial ministries. Other tasks include increasing public campaigns to address these issues and creating medium-long term plans to counter their effects.

The ministry may go into effect in approximately three months, pending the passing of a revision of the Government Reorganization Bill
