At approximately 1200 EST, initial reports indicated that a train had derailed on the 21740 Block of Main Street in Matteson, Illinois.

By 1230 EST, officials confirmed that six freight cars had derailed and that a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT)response was called by local emergency services.

As of this publication several road closures have been declared as a possible leak is being reared at the intersection of 216th Street and Main Street. A mandatory evacuation of a one mile radius has been ordered by local police.
It is not currently clear what the trains were transporting.
