25 People in Germany Arrested for Planning Coup

Early Wednesday, 25 German nationals connected to a far-right terrorist group were arrested for their suspected planning of a coup to overthrow the current German government.

An active-duty German soldier and a handful of reservists are among those being investigated.

The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office published a press release detailing the investigation.

According to the press release, the suspects got together and founded their group in late 2021. The group’s main objective was to overthrow the German government and replace it with its own.

The beliefs of the members are summed up by the press release here,

“The members of the group follow a conglomerate of conspiracy myths consisting of narratives of the so-called Reichsbürger and QAnon ideologies. They are firmly convinced that Germany is currently governed by members of a so-called “deep state”. According to the members of the association, liberation promises the imminent intervention of the “Alliance”, a technically superior secret society of governments, intelligence services and militaries of different states, including the Russian Federation and the United States of America. The association is firmly convinced that members of the “alliance” are already in Germany and that their attack on the “deep state” is imminent.”

But it doesn’t stop there. One of the suspects contacted Russian diplomats in Germany to aid the group in negotiating with the “victorious Allied powers of World War II” once the coup was successful.
