Nigerien Military on High Alert, Claims French Violation of Airspace

In the past twelve hours, the Nigerien Interim government, backed by the Russian Federation has put its forces on high alter in Niamey. As this publication reported yesterday thousands of security forces personnel flooded into the capital after the deadline posed by ECOWAS expired to rectify the coup.

Mali, Burkina Faso, and the Russian Federation have appealed to the United Nations to allow the new government to form and prevent military intervention from ECOWAS nations.

As of this morning, the Nigerien interim government has arrested the son of Niger Ambassador to France Kane and accused France of violating Nigerien airspace, a claim that has not been corroborated.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Niger has declared a shelter in place order for Americans in Niamey as security forces lockdown the capital. The American Embassy also declared a curfew for American citizens.

There have been no major indications that ECOWAS, French, or bi-lateral military actions have begun against Niger, or have major preparations began.
