Recently released satellite imagery by Maxar shows construction activity along the coast of southern Gaza city (Geo: 31.4969, 34.4081), which is likely part of the United States-led pier project to ferry in humanitarian aid from Cyprus that was announced last week by President Joe Biden during the State of the Union address.

On Tuesday, The United States Army General Frank S. Besson Jr.-class RoRo vessel USAV SP4 James A. Loux, along with the Runnymede-class large landing craft USAV Matamoros, USAV Monterrey, and USAV Wilson Wharf have departed Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, and are heading to the Mediterranean Sea to “establish a roll-on, roll-off dock capability that allows ship to shore humanitarian assistance to Gaza,” according to CENTCOM.
“SP4 James A. Loux, Monterrey, Matamoros, and Wilson Warf are carrying equipment and supplies needed to establish a temporary pier to deliver vital humanitarian supplies,” the statement added.
