French Labor Minister Elisabeth Borne has officially been appointed Prime Minister of France by President Macron. This move is expected to be President Macrons attempt to create a more friendly left leaning government in the light of a resurgent populist movement that came relatively close to defeating him in the 2022 Presidential Elections.
Élisabeth Borne (borne 18 April 1961) is a French politician of La République En Marche! (LREM) who served as Minister of Labour, Employment and Integration in the government of Prime Minister Jean Castex from 2020 to 2022.
A long-time member of the Socialist Party (PS), Borne voted for Emmanuel Macron in the 2017 French presidential election and later joined La République En Marche! (LREM). She opposed France’s ratification of the European Union–Mercosur free trade agreement.
