40 May Be Missing After Virginia Flooding

Date:

More than 40 missing persons reports have been filed overnight in Buchanan County, Virginia after heavy rainfall in the Dismal River area, which encompasses Dismal River, Patterson, Hale Creek, Pilgrim’s Knob, Whitewood, and the Jewell Valley area.

More than 100 homes have been damaged if not completely destroyed in the overnight flooding and all roads have been closed into the Dismal River area.

Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Virginia) had this to say:

“I am committed to helping the people afflicted by flooding in Buchanan County recover. My office and I have been monitoring the aftermath of this disaster. While in Washington for votes, I have spoken with Governor Youngkin about the situation, and I have staff at the scene. I will continue to advocate for a response that meets the needs of the area. My heart is with the people of the County and the first responders on the ground.”
