Several Casualties in Suspected Ramming Attack, Brooklyn, NY

Update (2147 EST): The NYPD has confirmed that one victim has died from their injuries after a sixty two year old man struck pedestrians in the U-Haul truck. The man who is still unnamed, has reportedly been known to police since 2019. While he has no criminal history and is not linked to any terror groups, he did interact with police and was diagnosed with a mental disorder. When he was detained he told police that “he just wanted to die”.

This incident has not been categorized as a terror incident. Video showing part of the rampage is below:

At approximately 1120 EST, reports began to emerge of a ramming attack at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway in Brooklyn, New York.

At least five pedestrians and a New York City Police Department officer were injured when the U-Haul truck was driven onto a sidewalk in front of a commercial area. At least one cyclist and multiple motorcyclists were injured during the rampage. The truck was reportedly being pursued by an NYPD cruiser at the time of the incident. The driver fled on foot from the scene, but was reportedly captured a short time later in Sunset Park.

The NYPD bomb squad is investigating the truck for explosives and Department spokespersons have yet to comment officially. It is not currently clear if this incident is terror-related. This is developing.
