Former Pakistani Prime Minister Attacked in London

Update 1833 EST: Local media now reporting that Sharif was not the target of an attack, but rather caught in the middle of a protest in which police arrested the protestor. The former prime minister was reportedly in an outlet and coffee was thrown on his car during the unrelated incident.

At approximately 1726 EST, reports began to emerge that former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and two guards were attacked while visiting a cafe in London. While none of the entourage were injured, a substance appears to have been thrown on their vehicle. One suspect wearing a HAZMAT suit and a message printed on the back has been arrested.

Sharif is a Pakistani businessman and politician who has served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan for three non-consecutive terms. He is the longest-serving prime minister of Pakistan, having served a total of more than 9 years across three tenures. Each term has ended in his ousting.
