At approximately 0725 EST, reports began to emerge of a knife attack at a school in Eskilstuna, Sweden. However, by 0745 EST, local police confirmed that the attack occurred a the Munktellarenan sports facility where a grade school function was also occurring, not a school. The official statement from local Swedish police reads below:
“At 12:45 a call was received to the police regarding a suspected serious crime. Several calls were received to the police about the incident. At the moment, several police patrols are in the vicinity of Munktellarenan, which is supposed to be the scene of the crime. Barriers have been set up.
It must be an assault with at least one motive. The crime classification is attempted murder. At least three people are injured and they have been taken to hospital. The police press service has no details about the damage.”
The headmaster of the unnamed grade school confirmed that students were at facility, but the stabbing resulted from an altercation between two other groups in an unrelated event.
