Large Explosion on Pemex Nohoch Alfa Oil Platform, Gulf of Mexico

At approximately  0936 EST, reports began to emerge of an explosion and large fire on the Pemex Nohoch Alfa Oil Platform which is approximately 80km off the coast of Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico.

So far, there have been no confirmed fatalities and at least 200 employees have been evacuated from the oil platform. The cause of the explosion has not been determined as of this publication.

This is developing.

This same platform saw a dramatic suicide by a soldier of the 13th Marine Infantry Battalion who gaurds the platform. It is operated by Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
