1,700 People Evacuated, Several Injuries After Toxic Substance Mailed to Several South Korea Post Offices

At approximately 0536 EST, reports began to emerge of an evacuation underway at Seoul Central Post Office in Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea after a suspicious substance was found in a package.

More suspicious packages were registered at Seocho and Songpa Post Office. The packages were reportedly bound in yellow paper and all borne addresses from Taipei, Taiwan. By 0630 EST, authorities reported that suspicious packages had been mailed to several South Korean post offices since July 20th, 2023. This announcement was immediately followed by a nation-wide ban on imports while these packages were being investigated.

By 0700 EST, South Korean Minister of Science and ICT Jong-ho was reportedly leading the post office’s inspections into these packages with multiple HAZMAT teams being deployed.

As of this publication, at least 1,700 people were evacuated so far and multiple people have been hospitalized with dizziness and difficulty breathing after exposure to these parcels.
