U.S. Marine Commandant Hospitalized, General Heckl Appointed Acting Commandant

Update (1912 EST): The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps has published the below message in response to General Smith’s absence.

General Smith, the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps has been hospitalized for a medical emergency.

Lieutenant General Heckl is now acting Commandant since no Vice Commandant is in place. Lieutenant General Karsten Heckl currently serves as the Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, and the Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration.
