French Special Forces Helicopter Regiment Officer Killed in Training Accident

According to the French Ministry of Defense, Captain Mathieu Gayot of the 4th Special Forces Helicopter Regiment died during a training exercise. The announcement reads below:

“Designated as coordinator of an exercise dedicated to the instruction of new arrivals in the Guynemer district in Uzein (64), Captain Gayot was mortally wounded in the evening.

Emergency services intervened very quickly and pronounced him dead shortly after.

Bowing with deep sadness before the memory of this soldier who died in service while carrying out his mission, Army General Pierre Schill, Chief of Staff of the Army, joins forces with the immense pain of his family. His thoughts are with all his loved ones as well as his brothers in arms.”

The 4e Régiment d’Hélicoptères des Forces Spéciales (English: 4th Special Forces Helicopter Regiment) or 4e RHFS is a special operations unit of the French Army Light Aviation. It is part of the French Army Special Forces Command, therefore of the Special Operations Command. It is based in Pau.
