Australian Member of Parliament Roy Butler made this announcement on his Facebook page:
”This is terrible news. A truck and train collision just over the SA border. A double fatality at any time is horrible, but especially when families would be trying to be together for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. For motorists who need to travel from Broken Hill to SA the detour is via Mildura. I know there is a lot of movement between Broken Hill and SA this time of year. I have been advised in the last few minutes this diversion could be in place for 2-3 days. This is mainly to clear the rail wreckage. It will ad at least 2 hours to travel time. Condolences to the families involved.“
